Richardson Gifted has become GEAR (Gifted Education Alliance of Richardson)

Who we are

Where   we   are   now

GEAR (the Gifted Education Alliance of Richardson) is a nonprofit membership organization serving families and educators of gifted children in RISD.  We are the evolution of the Richardson Gifted parent support group, and we strive to support gifted children, their families, and their educators in a variety of ways.  We provide value to members through our programs, opportunities to connect, and membership benefits, and we work closely with our district to advocate for excellence in meeting the educational needs of gifted and talented students.

Our past support for RISD GT services and families:
  • Enrichment events for students, including the Cardboard Challenge and STEAM events from NuMinds Enrichment
  • Co-sponsored RISD parent education speakers and RISD GT Parent Symposium
  • Lunches and teacher appreciation treats for REACH teachers
  • Game nights where GT students and parents meet and socialize
  • Donated multiple scholarships each year for RISD educators to attend GT professional development conferences
  • Organized and donated resources to REACH Resource Library
  • Advocacy for GT services locally and across Texas
We are excited to announce our growth and vision for supporting gifted services in Richardson ISD.  We continue to provide support and community for gifted students and their families, and our new programs enrich the learning of participating students.  We encourage educators to join alongside parents, and we provide direct support to gifted services in Richardson ISD.  Through local and statewide connections, including Parent Support Group affiliation with TAGT, we work toward best practices at the local, regional, and state level.

We recognize the unique needs of gifted students in special populations, and we are committed to equity and diversity.  To meet all student needs, it is important for GT education to remain a priority locally and statewide.  With support from our members and community, we promote best practices and work to ensure that our district and state can meet the advanced learning needs of all students.
